Hello!! I am Staci and I am excited to be the new (part-time) Community Relations Associate at Gateway Center!

My friends call me a “Ray of Sunshine” which is pretty funny seeing as how I was born and raised in the Sunshine State. I lived in Florida for about 25 years and graduated from The University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. I moved to the lovely city of Atlanta a little over 2 years ago and absolutely LOVE everything that Atlanta has to offer. From the food to the festivals to the culture, Atlanta has captured my heart and I don’t see myself leaving anytime soon! I also enjoy the outdoors and appreciate that you can drive just a few hours outside the city and encounter beautiful nature, hike trails, and gaze at stunning waterfalls.

Some of my other hobbies include crafting, pinterest-ing (if that is even a thing), ballroom dancing, cooking, blogging and exploring. My weekends are usually spent at a neighborhood festival, biking around the city or working on my “Atlanta Bucket List”; which is a list of museums, restaurants, parks and other places in Atlanta that I haven’t ventured to yet.

I knew, even at a young age that I wanted to work in a field where I was helping to make the world a better place; which is why I am so excited to begin my journey at Gateway Center! My experience with homelessness runs skin deep having had experienced my own sister go through it. My sister experienced years of homelessness, as well as physical and mental abuse at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. I watched as her self-esteem and dignity fell through the cracks, I worried when we did not hear from her for months and I wanted nothing more than to see her life change for the better. It took some time, but eventually, it did. She changed her life around and is now self-employed, has a roof over her head, food on the table and, most importantly, HAPPY!

I can only hope that my firsthand experience with homelessness makes my experience at the Gateway Center that much more personal and meaningful. I expect to learn and grow as I take on new opportunities and experience what Gateway has to offer. I look forward to getting to know our clients, building relationships and learning their stories. Alongside Gateway’s magnificent staff, I am honored to be a part of the determination to end homelessness in the Atlanta area.
