WOMEN AND CHILDREN’S
ASSESSMENT CENTER AND
STABILIZATION PROGRAM

The Women and Children’s Assessment Center and Stabilization Program was founded to assist single women and women with children. At the Women and Children’s Center (WACC) the client’s immediate and short-term needs are evaluated in order to connect the client with appropriate community programs, resources, and housing.

Most clients are a member of a priority homeless population and are offered beds under the following circumstances:

  • She would qualify for a pre-treatment bed but those beds are filled
  • The individual is in crisis and cannot be assessed until stabilized
  • She qualifies as one of the focus populations designated for this program, or
  • She is a mother with at-risk children (children, who as a result of their family’s housing crisis, are in imminent danger of possible physical or sexual abuse and/or neglect, exposure to alcohol and/or drug abuse, and/or exacerbation of a pre-existing medical or mental health condition)

Clients receive three nutritional meals a day, if they are on-site during meal serving time.

The Gateway Center staff reviews progress daily to find appropriate housing, and mothers with children are referred, as appropriate, to childcare and public schools.
