THE GATEWAY CENTER:
A RECORD OF SUCCESS
Since its opening on July 27, 2005, the Gateway Center has:
- Placed more than 1,100 individuals in permanent housing
- Helped more than 1,200 individuals find employment or enter training programs that lead to employment
- Reunited more than 3,500 people with family/friend support systems in other states through its Reunification Program, facilitated by Travelers Aid of Metro Atlanta
- Assisted more than 13,000 different homeless individuals with Gateway Center and partner services
- Cared for more than 3,600 homeless individuals at the on-site clinic operated by Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care Services
- Delivered services or programs to more than 2,600 women and children in 2008, when the economic downturn adversely affected the most vulnerable Atlantans
- Provided more than 54,200 units (over 90 people per day) of humane services such as showers, telephones, lockers and clothing services in the newly renovated Client Engagement Center
- Served more than 250,000 meals
- Opened the Veterans Transitional Housing Program in 2006 and reached a 96 percent occupancy rate as of FY08
- Provide health care and access to counseling resident for mental health homeless patients on a daily basis
- Launched Atlanta’s first Recuperative Care program for the homeless, with beds in cooperation with Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care Services and Grady Hospital in 2008
- Worked with more than 700 homeless men and women seeking addiction treatment and access to substance abuse treatment programs
