HERMAN ANDREWS, STAFF

After retiring from the Army, Herman Andrews joined the staff of the Gateway Center as a Client Engagement Coordinator. He felt a desire to help the people in his community, and a friend told him about possible career opportunities at the Gateway Center.

“She thought I would be inspired by the challenge of working to end chronic homelessness…and she was right,” Herman says.

At the Gateway Center, Herman ensures that all clients are connected in a timely manner to the appropriate services, programs and resources offered by the center and its partners.

Herman brings a “can do” attitude to work every day. He has watched many of his clients make the difficult journey out of homelessness to self-sufficiency.

Those success stories motivate him to work harder. Recently, a young girl who had stayed in the Gateway Center several years ago returned to inform Herman that she was graduating from high school and had received a four-year scholarship to Boston University.

He looks forward to the day when chronic homelessness is no longer an issue of concern in metro Atlanta, but until then, he’s dedicated to ensuring the community knows that the Gateway Center is Atlanta’s primary point of entry to an array of homeless services.
