Richard McWilliams is Gateway's ASsistant Coordinator for the Client Engagement Center. When he speaks to a client at the Gateway Center, he can often draw from his own real-life experiences to build trust and understanding. Richard, who is an assistant coordinator for the Client Engagement Center, was once homeless, too.

Now, he works at the Gateway Center to ensure the safety of all clients and guests. His tasks range from supervising check-in procedures to greeting guests and clients with warmth and hospitality.

Richard has worked in social services for the past eight years, but he’s always touched when he knows he’s made a difference in someone’s life.

“The best part of my job is when clients come back and say thank you to me and to Gateway staff,” Richard says.

Some days are frustrating, especially when Richard is counseling clients who are not ready for the services offered by the Gateway Center. But Richard knows the Gateway Center has helped many others by providing services – not just shelter.

“The Gateway Center is caring, helping and loving,” says Richard.
