Learn. Serve. Grow.

Gateway believes that changing the lives and perceptions of our volunteers is an important part of our mission. We work to equip all individuals, including volunteers, with the tools to end homelessness. By doing so, we hope to have an ever greater impact on our community.

They helped us squash the stereotypes of the homeless and understand everyone goes through a rough patch in our lives. Some of us are just fortunate enough that we had a shoulder to lean on and get us back on our feet. The Gateway Center offers this shoulder that everyone so desperately needs.
Heather, Student Volunteer
While volunteering with the Gateway Center, I gained a very positive and enlightening experience … I hope to go back to Gateway with more volunteers to educate others!
Sandy, Individual Volunteer
The most satisfying part of my job is watching students have an ‘a-ha’ moment. When they get it that we should care for those around us and love our neighbor and care for people who are being marginalized.
Bec Cranford, Gateway Volunteer Coordinator
I really love the men and women I meet at Gateway. And if I can just bring a smile or have someone speak to me who never talks, it makes my work that much more rewarding.
Charles, Church Group Volunteer
  • Volunteer in our Clothing Closet
  • Plan and serve a Warm Meal
  • Brighten someone’s day

Get Started

Each volunteer is required to participate in an educational orientation to better acquaint themselves with the complex issues involved in homelessness in Atlanta, as well as understand Gateway’s role in addressing those issues. To register for an upcoming volunteer orientation, please follow the above link to fill our our Volunteer Registration Form. (More information is available on the form.)

We work with each group’s schedule to find a convenient time. However, our volunteer calendar fills up fast (particularly during the holidays and summer season), so we recommend that you schedule your group volunteer project with Gateway months in advance.

It is important to us that all volunteers have a positive and rewarding experience at the Gateway Center, so we offer various volunteer activities and programs for every type of group and individual.

Some individual and group volunteer opportunities include:

  • Helping to prepare and serve meals
  • Painting
  • Light housekeeping
  • Chapel services
  • Sorting in-kind donations
  • Supervising the computer lab
  • Job Training and Interview Training
  • Client Engagement Assistance
  • Special donation drives (Coats, Packaged Food Drives, Towels, etc.)
  • GED tutoring for adult clients

Thank you to our volunteer partners who strengthen our ability to serve the marginalized of Atlanta by their contributions of finances, time, and energy.
We are grateful for your continued partnership in our mission to change lives and end homelessness!
