You are cordially invited to our signature event and help us celebrate 13 years of proudly serving Atlanta and #ALifeOfDignity to those experiencing homelessness.
The name of our event derives from a line in The Novels of Balzac by French novelist and playwright Honoré de Balzac which states:
“And a conviction brings a salient indefinable
beauty into faces made of the commonest human clay.”
Gateway Center recognizes that some may initially see someone that is experiencing homelessness as “common” or as “not special” due to be uninformed or their personal bias. However, the truth is that with an ounce of love and support, the conviction that each of us possess to be stably housed and to provide for ourselves will become evident and shine brightly in those served by the Gateway Center.
At Gateway Center we are provided the opportunity daily to see the beauty of “conviction” being re-ignited in each of the clients that we serve. Often, it is stated that the American Dream is the freedom to succeed and prosper which can be achieved through hard work. The Gateway Center provides our clients experiencing homelessness with the opportunity to gain skills that will allow them to gain access to housing; become employable and demonstrate their conviction to be a hard worker.
“The mission of the Gateway Center is to work to end homelessness, and particularly chronic homelessness, by providing the support and framework people need to achieve self-sufficiency.”
By supporting this event, you will support Gateway Center in raising funds to support our mission and make homelessness rare and brief for those plagued by a displaced situation in metro Atlanta. Funds raised directly support programming such as intensive case management; job readiness training; food services; and other vital supports.
Since 2005, Gateway Center, together with its collaborating partners, has served as a beacon of hope to the approximately 6,000 people annually experiencing homelessness. In 2016, the city of Atlanta reports that there are just over 3,500 individuals experiencing homelessness in the city of Atlanta alone. The organization was founded in a spirit of community collaboration in response to recommendations by former Mayor Shirley Franklin to establish a central point of care in metro Atlanta to meet the needs of those experiencing homelessness in a systematic and supportive manner. Gateway Center continues to deliver programs and services through partnerships that are designed to provide a collective impact approach to support individuals in their successful efforts to transition out of homelessness.
White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails has been the presenter and lead sponsor of Human Clay since its inception. Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta and operated by Brewed to Serve Restaurant Group, WOKC brings a taste of contemporary Southern cuisine and a warm atmosphere to the busy city. Executive Chef Todd Richards, formerly of One Flew South, The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead and The Shed at Glenwood, leads the kitchen with his appreciation for seasonal ingredients and regional Southern flavors.
